Welcome to Maama's Community & Cultural Centre: Empowering Uganda's Youth

Welcome to Maama's Community & Cultural Centre, a transformative initiative that aims to empower and uplift vulnerable young people in Uganda. Our mission is rooted in the memory of a remarkable woman, Maama, who epitomized compassion, generosity, and community spirit. Based in Bugabo village, our centre is a beacon of hope, dedicated to providing education, opportunities, and a nurturing environment for young individuals to thrive.

Our story

The passing of Maama in November 2020 left an indelible void, not only in the hearts of her family but also in the wider community. Her legacy of hospitality, selflessness, and unwavering support for those in need continues to inspire us. Maama's home was a place of gathering, where all were welcome, and her table was always abundant. She exemplified the spirit of giving, visiting the sick, and providing for the hungry.

Driven by the desire to honour Maama's memory and create a lasting impact, we have embarked on a journey to establish a space that will amplify young people in Bugabo village and beyond.

Our Vision

Maama's Community & Cultural Centre is a vision born from compassion and guided by a commitment to youth empowerment. Our aim is to provide vulnerable young individuals with the tools, resources, and opportunities they need to break the cycle of poverty, gain education, and contribute positively to their communities.

Empowering Uganda's Youth

The challenges faced by young people in Uganda are vast, from limited access to education to the scourge of unemployment. Our centre strives to address these issues head-on by offering a holistic approach to empowerment:

  • We believe that education is the foundation for change. Our centre will provide access to quality vocational training, equipping young individuals with the skills needed to secure employment and create a better future for themselves.

  • We empower young people to harness their creativity and ambition through entrepreneurship. By providing guidance, mentorship, and resources, we support the development of sustainable business ventures that contribute to economic growth

  • Uganda's rich cultural heritage is a source of pride. Our centre will celebrate and preserve arts, crafts, and traditions. Through cultural activities, we instil a sense of identity and pride in our youth.

  • Maama's Community & Cultural Centre is more than just a physical space. It's a hub for community engagement, where young individuals can connect, collaborate, and make a positive impact on their surroundings

Phase One: Successful Completion of Well Construction

We are excited to share a significant milestone in our journey at Maama's Community & Cultural Centre. Despite facing various challenges, we are proud to announce the successful completion of our well construction phase. This achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our team on the ground.

Witnessing Progress Firsthand

During a visit to Uganda in December, we had the privilege of overseeing the initial stages of the well construction. While time constraints limited our involvement, we were fortunate to be present when the first water source was struck. The sight of this momentous event was truly inspiring, reminding us of the positive impact this project will have on the community.

A Testament to Dedication

We owe this achievement to the remarkable efforts of the young individuals who were tirelessly involved in this project. Their energy, dedication, and commitment were awe-inspiring, reflecting their determination to create positive change within their community.

Abundant Water Supply

The well has proven to be a success, as evidenced by the substantial water supply it has provided. During the initial pumping operation after installing the pump, we were able to extract an impressive 7000 litres of water. This abundance gives us great hope for sustaining a vital water source, especially as the dry season approaches.

Overcoming Challenges

While the completion of this phase is a reason to celebrate, we also faced challenges along the way. The rising global cost of living contributed to higher-than-anticipated expenses, totalling over $8000. However, our unwavering commitment and collaboration with WEIS Engineering ensured the successful realization of this crucial phase.

Looking Ahead

With the well construction phase behind us, we now turn our focus to the next stages of our project. The initial building plan for the centre is nearing finalization, bringing us closer to creating a vibrant space that will empower and uplift the youth of Bugabo village.

Gratitude and Hope

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all supporters and well-wishers who have been part of this journey. Your contributions, encouragement, and belief in our vision have been instrumental in reaching this point. As we continue to work towards building Maama's Community & Cultural Centre, we are filled with hope and determination to create a lasting impact on the lives of young individuals in Uganda.

Stay tuned for more updates as we move forward on this transformative endeavour. Together, we are shaping a brighter future for the community and its youth.
