4 Days Gorilla Trekking Rwanda I Golden Monkeys I Culture I

Parc National des Volcans in Rwanda offers one of the best locations for gorilla trekking with about 10 habituated gorilla families that you can trek. Only 80 permits are issued per day, it vital to book your permit as early as possible. Up to eight 8 people are permitted per one family of gorillas. Starting in the cultivated land at the base of the volcanoes, the trek normally lasts a few hours or more depending to the family.

While in the park you can trek gorillas, climb Mt. Visoke, trek golden monkeys or visit the Karisoke Research Centre, founded by Dian Fossey the famous American primatologist or visit local villages.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

Arrive at Kanombe (Kigali) airport. You will be received by your designated driver then transfer to Kigali City. Drive three hours North of Kigali to Kinigi through Ruhengeri. Enjoy the rolling hills for which Rwanda is well known.

Day 2: Parc National des Volcano: Gorilla tracking

Head to Kinigi Park Headquarters for the gorilla trek briefing. Trek through the forest to see these glorious creatures. The walking is quite steep but not overly exhausting you need to be fit. Encountering face to face with mountain gorillas is a extraordinary experience well worth the effort. You will be spending a magical hour with these great primates in their natural habitat. The experience is unimaginable and for sure it will last a long time.

Day 3: Parc National des Volcano

In Parc National des Volcans: there several activities to choose from, do any of the following options; Track the golden monkeys or climb Mt. Visoke volcano, or trek to Karisoke Research Centre which was set up by the famous primatologist Dian Fossey to protect mountain gorillas, or visit local communities. After the activities, we will stop for lunch at Ruhengeri and transfer to Kigali.!

Day 4: City tour and fly out

Time permitting; go for a tour of the city (optional). This includes a visit to the Kigali Genocide memorial centre. Visit crafts shops for souvenirs. Transfer to airport for your flight. Approximate driving time: 30mins
